Motor Bikes Gear Shift Tips

Proper Gear Shifting Techniques
A proper gear shifting is very necessary while riding a motorcycle, and at all times. This habit gives you the proper discipline of riding a two wheeler, also saves life at many times by minimizing the real danger of harsh riding.
Here Are Some Tips For Proper And Safe Riding :
- Shift all the way down to the first gear by holding the clutch. Rolling the bike a little each direction might help.
- After you are in first gear, and moving at an acceptable speed. Pull or press in the clutch, at the same time let off of the gas.
- On most motorcycles, you pull the lever up with your foot. This lever is located at your left foot.
- Remember to keep on holding the clutch in pull up slowly on the shifter until you feel it click. This is neutral. Keep pulling up, the second click will be 2nd gear.
- Release the clutch lever smoothly and reapply the gas at the same time. The aim here is to do everything smoothly so that you don’t bounce off down the road like a kangaroo. Not applying the gas will result in the engine stalling. Make sure that you know when to shift.
- Remember for shifting into higher gears can be accomplished in two ways. The method described for shifting from first to second will work, but you can also shift without the clutch by applying a gentle upward pressure to the shift lever and then backing off on the throttle slightly. The transmission should then shift into the next gear. This will also work from first to second, but generally is not as smooth because neutral is in between the two gears.
- To downshift, engage (pull) the clutch in, then press down on the lever with your left foot. Every time you do this, the gearbox drops one gear.
