ABS is a safety feature in the vehicle that is designed to stop suddenly in a certain fast motion without skidding and also allows the driver to maintain the steering control and to stop in the shortest possible distance while applying brakes. The anti-lock breaking system or the ABS prevents the wheels from locking up as the vehicle slows down for an emergency stop.

When ABS system works you may experience a slight vibration or a rapid pulsation of the brake pedal. As if the brakes are pushing back, you will feel the pedal suddenly drop. The valves in the ABS unit may make a grinding, scraping or buzzing noise. This means your ABS is working. Continue to apply firm pressure and steer. To correctly operate the anti-lock breaking system press the brake pedal firmly, don’t pump the brakes and don’t let go until the vehicle has stopped. The ABS will do all the work. Do not take your foot off the brake pedal.

To check if your vehicle is equipped with anti-lock breaking system, just go through the available Owners Manual and for a particle checkup for any yellow ABS indicator light after you turn on your vehicle.
